The last few days have been truly outstanding fun. From Estardil we sailed up to Cadaques, a well know tourist attraction on this Wild Coast. There is no harbor in Cadaques, only a bay to anchor in which is open to the South East. The forecast was for fresh South Easterlies so we went around the corner to Port Llegat, a marvelous little bay, which is where the home of Dali stands. The bay is protected against winds from all directions except Northerlies but packed full with moorings that are not being rented until later in the season. So it was a bit difficult to find a spot to anchor but with the help of the mooring guy, we found a nice spot among spectacular surroundings. I'll try to get the pictures on Smugmug but the WIFI is rather slow here .......
While we explored Cadaques by bike and the Port by dinghy at some length, the highlight of our time in Port Llegat was our visit to the Dali museum. The museum was his home for many years and it includes two unfinished pictures he was working on when he passed. The best part of the museum, however, were the video clips that were being shown which left us wondering whether the guy was truly crazy or just playing crazy. The videos showed him in silly outfits saying cool things like: "I can't tell whether I like something unless I eat it!" He clearly perfected the art of making money by performing nonsense! You get an idea about him from the pictures. As for the house, I particularly like the swimming pool with shaded cabana and the lip shaped plastic sofa set among Pirelli tire ads .... In the picture below you will see two silver human heads next to the anchored Kincsem. These are roof decorations of Dali's house!
Yesterday we performed our first stern to docking maneuver here in Port Vendres without the blockbuster. Some improvements are possible but we are tied up safely now. And the croissants this morning clearly demonstrated that we are BACK IN FRANCE!
