Cala de Sant Pol

Yesterday, Kalle and Jutta left and Eberhard from Gauting arrived. I'm now getting experience in the "washing, cleaning and teaching" routine involved in a crew change. The boat needs to be cleaned inside and out and most importantly, all the used bedding and towels need to get washed and dried so the new crew has clean stuff. We've been using the washing machine for that and done the drying on deck. The whole process takes a few hours but if everybody helps together so it's not too painful. And when the new crew arrives, I go through my checklist of things to show people about the boat, which also takes some time. It helps, of course, if you have someone like Eberhard who is a longtime Starboat sailor. He can deal with complexity!

We started our little cruise of the Costa Brava by sailing south in a little, dying Easterly breeze. The plan was to visit Tossa del Mar just a few miles away. We got to Tossa in the mid-afternoon and what had looked great when we passed it a few days ago, didn't look so great when we tried to decide where to put the anchor down. There were two places in the handbook to try and both were too rolly with a swell rolling in from the East and quite tight. So off we went, looking for something else, back North. The next Cala, Cala Futador, also looked good and we had seen some boats anchor there earlier. But again, quite rolly and not very inviting to spend the night. So we ended up back in Cala de Sant Pol where we had anchored for lunch a few days ago. We put the stern anchor down right away so we were pointed into the slight swell. Eberhard's first day ended with a nice dinner ashore - all good!
